Delhi: Neurosurgeon at Safdarjun hospital among five detained by CBI for illegal activities

new Delhi:A 4-year-old girl who had her fingers cut off in an accident got a new life after being treated by doctors at the hospital. Safdarjung Hospital Two digits were transplanted from her left foot to her right hand, giving her functioning digits for vital functions.

This rare and complex microvascular surgery was successfully performed by Professor Rakesh Kain and his team.

Maira, from Alwar, Rajasthan, was involved in a mechanical accident two years ago. Her family went to a state hospital, but her finger never grew back. Myra couldn’t go to school because she couldn’t hold a pencil or write. She could not do her daily tasks or play with her toys.

Her father, Net Lam, saw a doctor at the next hospital. Safdarjung Hospital A team of burns and plastic surgery was assembled under the supervision of Ministry of Justice physician Dr. Shalabh Kumar and planned to transplant two fingers from her left foot to her hand.

Dr. Sharab Kumar said it was a very complicated operation that required connecting thin threadlike blood vessels to restore blood circulation, nerves and tendons. Such surgeries are performed under an operating microscope and require a professional plastic surgeon and anesthesia team.

The team that performed the surgery was led by Dr. Rakesh Kain, and the anesthesia was handled by a team of four doctors. The surgery was performed on May 16, 2023 and took nine hours to complete. After four days of postoperative care, doctors said the child was fine and had functioning fingers.

Dr. BL Shawar, medical director of Safdarjun Hospital, said toe transplantation is a very difficult procedure and very few facilities carry it out.
